From Relocation to Full Speed: Establishing My Quantum UX Product Design Journey
Navigating quantum career paths: My strategic quest to find the perfect tech opportunity

For those who don’t know me, I am on an adventure to remain active in the quantum computing space. Last year, I moved back to the Netherlands from the USA. I was working for a quantum computing company, but due to my relocation, I had to leave my role. Currently, I am not employed at any company, but I am determined to find the right position—one that aligns with my passion and expertise. I am not interested in just any job, so I am experimenting with different approaches to connect with opportunities that truly excite me.
My Approach to Finding Opportunities
I recently took a more targeted social media outreach approach after initially reaching out to companies directly. Here’s what I’ve been doing and the results so far:
1. Cold Outreach to Companies
I made a list of companies in quantum computing, high-performance computing, and cloud—industries that match my interests.
I sent tailored messages to these companies, highlighting my accomplishments and how I could contribute.
My expectation was that I wouldn’t get any replies. But surprisingly, I did!
I met with some companies in person.
I had calls with others.
With one company, I even discussed a potential collaboration, though it hasn’t been finalized yet.
Another company mentioned a future initiative I could be part of.
Conclusion? Cold outreach isn’t as bad as people say. It’s just one of many ways to build traction with the companies you care about.
2. Connecting with Key People
I believe in a highly targeted approach. I made a list of five companies and worked on getting a call with each.
I didn’t necessarily say, “I want to work for you.” Instead, I approached it with curiosity, genuinely wanting to learn about the company and see if I could help.
This method isn’t about immediate job hunting—it’s about building meaningful connections.
3. Attending Local Events
I identified events that are truly relevant to my interests.
A few months ago, I attended a quantum computing event in Amsterdam organized by lawyers helping companies raise funds and navigate regulations in the EU.
This event sparked an idea: I’d love to be involved in regulatory work, helping quantum companies scale and secure funding.
While I don’t know where this idea will lead, it gives me something valuable to discuss with new connections.
4. Engaging in Forums & Communities
I joined a WhatsApp community focused on quantum computing.
I introduced myself and connected with a student working in my field. We met in person and had an insightful discussion.
Building connections in niche communities is invaluable—not just for networking but for expanding knowledge.
5. Establishing My Quantum UX Brand
I decided to take my passion for quantum computing seriously and apply my UX expertise strategically.
I created a strong visual identity and content plan for my outreach efforts.
I branded my activities as Quantum UX and established a presence on LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
I also set up my Linktree alternative - Zaap and this newsletter to consolidate my communication channels.
Through sharing my journey, insights, and content, I hope to:
Attract designers interested in quantum computing.
Demonstrate my skills and knowledge to potential clients and collaborators.
This is just the beginning! If you're interested in quantum computing, UX, or high-performance computing, let’s connect and build something great together.
Thanks for being part of my journey!
